Safe Scape

Safe scape was part of #ColourMeIn, an online campaign by UNESCO Asia-Pacific.
Launched on 17 May 2019, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia meant to raise awareness about school-related bullying and violence on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression (SOGIE).
In this soundscape, people will hear many things going on, just like at school. If you listen carefully, there are voices of people talking, expressing themselves truly and being supported for their uniqueness. I tried to express, through soundscape and happy music, how it feels to be in a safe school like the one I grew up in. When students don't feel safe, they are likely to give up on school. This sound art lets people experience and know that such a safe school exists. As the sound develops, we turn back time into childhood where nobody is concerned about your gender identity. Sometimes we just want to freeze time and let it stay like that forever.
